We Will Find a Cure…

How can we not?  This event has accomplished and exceeded every other goal we set!  In 2006 not only did we raise over $352,000 for the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA), we created tremendous awareness to our cause by having 128 law firms from around the country participate in our Law Firm Challenge.  In 2007, we also started our West Coast Law Firm Challenge which has helped us further spread awareness of this great cause. 

This year we set a goal to secure the participation of 150 law firms and, as I sit and write this letter, we have already surpassed this goal with 175 firms participating.  The incredible success of our event was recently recognized at the national CCFA meeting in New York where we received the “Most Original Event” in the country award.  We have also gotten children involved through the Keymorada Junior Event which, this year, finds fourteen fathers and children bonding together on the flats of Flamingo, Islamorada.  Many of these children have both raised and donated their own money to the cause.

The tremendous success of this event has been a team effort.  This year we have twenty-four hard-working individuals on our Tournament and Fundraising Committee and I would be remiss if I did not make special mention of the hundreds of hours spent by my co-chair and brother, Glenn Widom.  On behalf of the entire Committee and my family, I want to thank all of our sponsors, law firm challengers and participants who have so generously supported our cause and will help us to one day find a cure.

This year’s event will once again be held at the beautiful Cheeca Lodge Spa & Resort in Islamorada, Florida on May 9th, 10th and 11th.  Although our event’s primary focus is to raise needed funds for the CCFA and awareness of this important cause, the Hall of Fame Fishing Guides that fish this event will once again guarantee a once in a lifetime fishing adventure for all of the participants.  If you are interested in participating in the Tournament and/or our fundraising, please call me and tight lines.
